AI digital signage vs. traditional providers: what to compare before you choose

7 min read

Before you sign a screen project it helps to understand the two models on the market: the traditional hardware-plus-CMS integrator, and self-service software with AI. Neither is better in the abstract; it depends on how often your content changes.

What is Displei.co's AI digital signage?

It is self-service software: you describe in one sentence the promotion you want to show and the AI builds the piece with your logo, colors and typography. You publish to the screen in your store and schedule days and hours from your phone or computer, with no designer and no agency.

Displei.co does not sell or install screens: it focuses on content and publishing. It works with the TV or tablet you already have.

  • Artwork created by AI from a single sentence.
  • Immediate publishing plus scheduling by day and time slot.
  • Public monthly price per screen, in Colombian pesos.
  • No mandatory lock-in and no installation work.

What is a traditional digital signage provider?

It is the integrator model: they sell or install the hardware — screens, mounts, players, cabling — and hand over a CMS where somebody has to upload already-designed content. Pricing comes from a project quote and usually includes installation and support contracts.

It is a solid model with decades behind it: it handles the physical side, the engineering of the install and large deployments very well. Its limit is on the content side: the CMS plays what you hand it, and every piece is prepared by you, your team or an external designer.

  • Hardware sale and installation as part of the scope.
  • Classic CMS: you upload finished files or playlists.
  • Design comes from an agency, a designer or a team member, piece by piece.
  • Project quote, no public pricing on the website.
  • Installation contract and, frequently, a maintenance contract.

Side-by-side: Displei.co vs. a traditional provider

The main difference is not the screen, it is who produces the content and how long a change takes. Displei.co generates the piece with AI and publishes in minutes at a public monthly price; the traditional provider delivers the install and the CMS, and design arrives from outside on a project quote.

When does a traditional provider make sense?

When the main challenge is physical rather than editorial: large networks with many locations, high-brightness screens or special formats, storefront installs, and institutional content that almost never changes. In those cases the engineering of the install matters more than how fast you can publish a promo.

  • You need to buy and install screens, mounts and cabling.
  • The hardware is specialized: high-brightness window displays, video walls, outdoor.
  • Content changes once or twice a year.
  • You already have an internal design team producing the pieces.
  • You need on-site maintenance with service level agreements.

When does Displei.co make sense?

When content changes often and there is no designer on payroll. A restaurant rotating the daily menu, a barbershop with a Tuesday promo or a store with a seasonal window needs to publish today, not wait for an external design cycle. That is where AI self-service pays off.

  • You change promotions weekly or daily.
  • You have no in-house designer and no agency on retainer.
  • You want public, monthly pricing without lock-in.
  • You already have TVs or tablets running in the store.
  • You need scheduling by time slot (for example lunch from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.).

How to choose between AI digital signage and a traditional provider

Answer three questions before requesting quotes: how many times a month does content change, who designs it today, and do you need to buy screens. If content changes often and nobody designs it, prioritize self-service software. If the challenge is installing and maintaining hardware, prioritize an integrator.

  • Count the real content changes from last quarter, not the planned ones.
  • Add up your team's time per change: it is the cost that almost never gets quoted.
  • Separate the hardware budget from the content budget: they are different decisions.
  • Demand a price per screen per month, so you can compare apples to apples.
  • Check lock-in, who owns the content, and what happens if you cancel.
  • Ask for a test using one of your real promotions, not a demo template.

The two models can coexist: the integrator installs and maintains the screens, and self-service software produces and schedules what plays on them.

Frequently asked questions

Does Displei.co replace hardware integrators?
No. Displei.co does not sell or install physical screens: it focuses on the software, the content and the scheduling. It works with hardware you already have installed, from any integrator.
Do I need to replace my screens to use Displei.co?
No. If it is a smart TV or a tablet, it works as is. If it is a regular TV, you add a one-time-purchase Android player and keep the same screen and the same mount.
Why don't traditional providers publish prices?
Because their scope is a project: screens, mounts, installation and support vary by location, height, required brightness and number of sites. It is a legitimate reason, but it makes the cost of content harder to compare — and content can be priced per screen per month.
Can I start with one screen and grow later?
Yes. The Esencial plan is COP $129,000 per month (up to 3 screens) plus VAT, and Pro includes AI images, video and up to 10 screens for COP $397,000 per month plus VAT. For more locations, the Enterprise plan is quoted by screens and cities.
